Multimodal Statement

The first mode that I used, other than linguistic, was spatial. To demonstrate this, I used different fonts to highlight very important words that I was trying to stress. Words such as “a million victims”, “end”, and even some quotes I made a lot bigger to show how significant they were to my argument. Fonts could also be a form of visual mode, but the way I used them was spatial because the way the text was arranged had underlying meaning.

The second mode I used was visual. In my argument, I discuss how important photography is in spreading awareness, so I had to include a picture so the readers could feel a sense of empathy. Photos speak way louder than words because there is only so much words can explain. I wanted to include a real life picture of sex trafficking and although it was hard to find, I found this one and it is very sad. I placed this photo in the paragraph where I discuss the significance of photography in spreading awareness. I also added a map of the world that features the numbers of sex trafficking victims for the year 2018. The map reflects on how big of an issue sex trafficking actually is, and that it is happening globally. This map is colored and it definitely serves as a form of art, so that is why I included it in my essay.

The third mode I used was audio. I found this clip on youtube of an interview with a past victim of sex trafficking. The young woman talked about how she met this boy at her school, and it turns out he was part of a Central American gang. This interview especially is very sad because this could happen to anyone at a young age, and that is why I needed to include it in my argument. You can hear the pain in the woman’s voice, and that is one thing that you cannot emphasize in linguistic writing.
